Hayden Brings the Fireworks

Three runaway wins, four almost-perfect ballots, and seven Toilet teams that misunderstood the assignment. Hayden made the most of just about everything.

The headline

Everybody on Hayden's roster understood the assignment.

BYU won 63–7. North Dakota State won 38–0. Iowa won 40–0. Three Standard teams, three wins, and a combined score of 141–7. Hayden's opponents spent the weekend looking for the exit while his margin points kept piling up. Even UL Monroe cooperated, turning a 62–13 loss into 14.9 Toilet points.

Add an 11–1 Pick'em ballot and a one-point boost from Iowa's climb to No. 21, and Hayden banked 70.3 points this week. His season total is 87.9, good for first place at 17.6 points per game. Big wins, big margins, useful losing, and almost every pick correct: that is a full-service weekend.

17.6 PPG
The pace setters

Two Matts in the rearview mirror

Matt Dillon, our draft-day projected champion, is second at 16.1 PPG with 64.4 total points. Texas Tech, New Mexico, and Navy all won; Sam Houston lost by three; and an 11–1 ballot tied for the best of the week. His 58.4-point haul includes a one-point deduction for Texas Tech's slip in the rankings. Four scoring roster slots and a nearly spotless ballot will keep the preseason spreadsheet feeling very pleased with itself.

Matt Reed is third at 15.8 PPG and 63.1 points. Kansas State's 71–3 demolition supplied 16.8 game points, the largest single-game return by a drafted team this weekend. Utah won 66–14, and Northern Illinois helped by losing 40–0. Michigan's 13–12 escape was less convincing: the Wolverines fell from No. 16 out of the poll, costing ten points, with Utah's one-spot rise returning one. All four teams scored for Matt on the field; Michigan just left a sizeable cleanup bill.

Bryson is fourth at 14.1 PPG. Ole Miss's 41–38 win over Louisville paid off on both his roster and his ballot, Ohio supplied 12.8 Toilet points, and Texas added a one-spot ranking gain. Sarah is fifth at 13.5 PPG after Notre Dame, Tennessee, and Houston all won, combining for 38.8 game points. Those same three teams added four ranking points. Her 67.5 total is second-highest in the league, spread across five scoring games.

Around the league

Blowouts, escapes, and a few draft-day receipts

Mitch had two very different reasons to stay near the television. LSU crushed Clemson 51–10 for 14.1 game points, while SMU waited until Monday to beat Florida State 27–24. Their combined five ranking points were the league's biggest poll bonus. Add Stanford's useful 45–6 loss to Miami and a 9–3 ballot, and Mitch earned 52.3 points this week. He is ninth at 11.5 PPG.

Army's 59–3 win was Rob Duane's biggest contributor at 15.6 game points. A 10–2 ballot helped him finish the week with 45.1, despite Oregon's four-point ranking deduction and Colorado winning in his Toilet slot. Stan got 13.1 points from Louisiana's 38–7 victory, a handy response to the draft summary calling it a reach. Robbie's Memphis is already 2–0 with 22.4 game points. The teams have apparently been reading their reviews.

Aaron had both ends of the stress spectrum: Penn State won 45–0 and added two ranking points, while Charlotte needed a 43–41 loss to deliver 10.2 Toilet points. Jay got Georgia's 63–3 rout, Washington's Apple Cup win, and a 10–2 ballot. There was plenty of productive football beyond the leaders; some owners simply had to work harder for a comfortable pulse.

The Fireworks Department

Hayden Reed

70.3 new points including Iowa’s one-point poll climb. Three Standard wins, a useful UL Monroe loss, and an 11–1 ballot put Hayden first in both total points and PPG.

The Unanimous Ambush

Colorado

Fourteen Georgia Tech picks. Zero survivors. Colorado’s 14–13 win also left Rob Duane’s Toilet slot empty-handed. A very efficient betrayal.

Margin Department

Matt Reed

Kansas State’s 71–3 win produced 16.8 points, the biggest single-game return by a drafted team over the new weekend. Michigan’s 13–12 escape counted, too. Style points sold separately.

Employee of the Weak

Spencer’s UTEP

A 51–0 loss to Oklahoma earned 15.1 Toilet points. Even after Alabama’s poll bonus, UTEP leads Spencer’s Crimson Tide in pool points, 15.1 to 14.8. Please do not explain this to an Alabama fan.

Draft-Day Receipts

Rylan Reed

The draft summary projected his roster last. His teams have earned 53.3 game points, including Rice’s 31–3 win. A two-point poll deduction and zero Pick’em points leave him fourteenth at 10.3 PPG. The roster has a rebuttal; the ballot is still blank.

The Long Weekend

Mitch Reed

LSU beat Clemson by 41. SMU beat Florida State by three on Monday. Add five ranking points between them, and Mitch had good reasons to watch through the holiday finale.

Wrong Kind of Improvement

Tom’s UMass

UMass beat Rutgers 37–21. Great for UMass. Terrible for the person who drafted it to lose. Add Oklahoma State’s 24–10 loss at Tulsa and Tom’s week needed a repair crew.

The Standings: Points Per Game

Ordered by official PPG, just like the league standings: total points, including Pick'em, divided by completed drafted-team scoring games. Totals include Week 0; “this week” covers September 3–7 games and the September 8 poll adjustment.

1Hayden Reed87.9 points · 5 games+70.3 this week · 70.9 game + 1 ranking + 16 picks overall17.6PPG

BYU, North Dakota State, and Iowa outscored their opponents 141–7. UL Monroe supplied a 49-point Toilet loss, Iowa added a ranking point, and an 11–1 ballot completed a 70.3-point week. Everybody clocked in.

2Matt Dillon64.4 points · 4 games+58.4 this week · 48.4 game − 1 ranking + 17 picks overall16.1PPG

Three Standard wins, one useful Toilet loss, and an 11–1 ballot. A one-point Texas Tech ranking deduction barely dents a productive week for the draft-day projected favorite, who sits second at 16.1 PPG.

3Matt Reed63.1 points · 4 games+57.1 this week · 56.1 game − 9 ranking + 16 picks overall15.8PPG

Kansas State won by 68; Michigan won by one. All four roster slots produced game points, but Michigan’s poll exit and Utah’s one-spot rise left a net nine-point deduction. Third place, with contributions in very different sizes.

4Bryson Reed56.3 points · 4 games+50.3 this week · 38.3 game + 1 ranking + 17 picks overall14.1PPG

Ole Miss edged Louisville 41–38, and Bryson backed the Rebels on his ballot too. Texas added a one-spot poll climb. Fourth overall and tied for the season Pick’em lead: a tidy collection of receipts.

5Sarah Moore67.5 points · 5 games+50.8 this week · 50.5 game + 4 ranking + 13 picks overall13.5PPG

Notre Dame, Tennessee, and Houston all won, combining for 38.8 game points and four ranking points. Everybody brought a dish and stayed to clean up. Sarah is fifth at 13.5 PPG.

6Stan Reed51.1 points · 4 games+44.1 this week · 35.1 game + 0 ranking + 16 picks overall12.8PPG

Louisiana answered its draft-summary “reach” label with a 38–7 win and 13.1 points. Stan is welcome to print that receipt in a larger font.

7Rob Duane50.1 points · 4 games+45.1 this week · 39.1 game − 4 ranking + 15 picks overall12.5PPG

Army’s 59–3 win delivered 15.6 game points, the biggest contribution on Rob’s roster. A 10–2 ballot helped offset Oregon’s four-point ranking deduction. Colorado’s Toilet-slot victory was less considerate.

8Mo Reeder46.4 points · 4 games+40.4 this week · 30.4 game − 1 ranking + 17 picks overall11.6PPG

Ohio State and Oklahoma won a combined 107–3, but Oklahoma still slipped one poll spot. An 11–1 ballot keeps Mo tied atop season Pick’em; Clemson and a winning Toilet team keep the overall celebration modest.

9Mitch Reed57.3 points · 5 games+52.3 this week · 38.3 game + 5 ranking + 14 picks overall11.5PPG

LSU’s 51–10 win paid 14.1 game points; Stanford’s loss to Miami paid 13.9. SMU added a Monday win, and LSU and SMU earned five ranking points between them. Plenty to enjoy in a 52.3-point week.

10Spencer Reed42.9 points · 4 games+38.9 this week · 28.9 game + 1 ranking + 13 picks overall10.7PPG

Alabama won by 38 and climbed one poll spot; UTEP lost by 51 and supplied 15.1 Toilet points. Two very different routes to being helpful, with Spencer tenth at 10.7 PPG.

11Jay Wallace42.4 points · 4 games+36.4 this week · 27.4 game − 1 ranking + 16 picks overall10.6PPG

Georgia’s 63–3 win, Washington’s Apple Cup victory, and a 10–2 ballot supplied the highlights. Georgia and Washington combined for a one-point ranking deduction; Jay finishes eleventh at 10.6 PPG.

12Aaron Reed52.7 points · 5 games+47.7 this week · 35.7 game + 2 ranking + 15 picks overall10.5PPG

Penn State won 45–0 and climbed two poll spots. Charlotte lost 43–41 for 10.2 Toilet points. Both contributed to Aaron’s 47.7-point week; only one required deep breathing.

13Tori Dillon52.0 points · 5 games+34.4 this week · 38.0 game + 1 ranking + 13 picks overall10.4PPG

Miami’s 45–6 win earned 13.9 game points, and idle Virginia entered the poll at No. 25 for another point. Purdue’s insistence on winning still left the Toilet slot empty-handed.

14Rylan Reed51.3 points · 5 games+39.7 this week · 53.3 game − 2 ranking + 0 picks overall10.3PPG

Texas A&M, USC, and Rice won their new games by a combined 117 points. A&M then fell two poll spots. Rylan has 53.3 game points, a two-point ranking deduction, and no Pick’em points: fourteenth, with a ballot-shaped opportunity.

15Robbie Baird47.6 points · 5 games+37.0 this week · 47.6 game + 0 ranking + 0 picks overall9.5PPG

Memphis is 2–0 and has already supplied 22.4 points. The draft summary called it a reach; the Tigers seem happy to keep the conversation going.

16Tom Bickart37.5 points · 4 games+31.5 this week · 25.5 game + 1 ranking + 11 picks overall9.4PPG

Indiana and Illinois supplied 25.5 game points, and Indiana’s poll climb added one more. UMass still committed the cardinal Toilet sin of winning. Tom is last, but only 0.145 PPG behind Robbie.

The ballot box

Perfect, except for Colorado

Hayden Reed, Matt Dillon, Bryson Reed, and Mo Reeder each went 11–1 on the twelve new games. Their only miss was everybody's miss: Colorado over Georgia Tech. Nobody gets to call that one obvious in the group chat. We have fourteen receipts.

The season Pick'em lead is now a three-way tie: Matt Dillon, Bryson, and Mo at 17–3. Week 0 leader Stan Reed went 9–3 and sits one back at 16–4 alongside Hayden, Matt Reed, and Jay Wallace. Monday's SMU win at Florida State rewarded nine believers and supplied the final point for all four weekly leaders.

Tom Bickart finished 5–7, the toughest submitted ballot of the week. Robbie Baird and Rylan again had no picks recorded. Rylan is fourteenth at 10.3 PPG; his teams are doing the group project while the ballot remains a blank document.

The expensive kind of winning

Toilet training is not going well

Seven of the sixteen Toilet teams won over the new weekend: UMass, Colorado, Georgia State, Purdue, Arkansas, New Mexico State, and Arizona State. Seven owners received zero points for all that school spirit. Arizona State won 70–7, which is an especially elaborate way to give Rylan nothing.

Tori, who shared the Week 0 lead, is thirteenth at 10.4 PPG, with 52.0 total points across five games. Miami and UNLV supplied wins, Virginia added a poll point without a new game, and Purdue insisted on being useful to Purdue. Mo's 11–1 ballot could not fully cover Clemson's 51–10 loss at LSU and Arkansas winning in the wrong roster slot; after Oklahoma's one-point poll deduction, he is eighth at 11.6 PPG with 46.4 total points. Tom is last at 9.4 PPG, narrowly behind Robbie's 9.5. Early days, but the repair bills have arrived.

There were consolations. Bryson's Ohio—the draft summary's “Hot Garbage”—lost 49–21 and delivered 12.8 points. Aaron's Charlotte lost 43–41 to The Citadel for 10.2. The Toilet Whisperer got paid, though Charlotte made him sweat for the plumbing.

Hayden set the pace. Who can keep up?

Hayden's roster delivered three emphatic wins and one extremely helpful loss, and his ballot missed only the game that fooled everybody. Matt Dillon and Matt Reed lead the pursuit, with Bryson and Sarah close enough to keep things interesting. Submit your picks, root against your Toilet, and see whether anyone can make next weekend look this easy.
